MAJORETTE AUDITION INFORMATION
Auditions for the 2017 Majorettes will be held on Saturday, April 29, 2017 at Stegeman Coliseum in Athens, GA. Auditions are open to the public for viewing.
Check-in: 1:30 pm - 2:00 pm Concourse Gate A
Audition: 2:00 pm - 5:00 pm
Interview: 5:00 pm – 6:00 pm

Application Requirements: All Candidates must submit the appropriate documents and return as a packet by Friday April 21, 2017 to:

The audition packet must include:
- Performance and Appearance Standard form
- Full Body photo in performance attire
- 1 sealed letter of recommendation
- Completed physical form from your doctor
- Copy of UGA Acceptance letter
- $40 non-refundable application fee (checks to HHSOM-UGA Bands)
Attire: All candidates should wear black leotard, tights, dance/baton shoes (whatever you choose). You may wear warm-ups to learn the routine if you would like.
Hair: Your hair & make-up should be complimentary and appropriate for an athletic environment. We would like to see an example of “game-day ready” meaning full hair (curled, half-up half down) and make-up. No Ponytails please!
Check-in: Upon arrival, candidates should check-in at Gate A.

Audition Routine: A guest chorographer will teach a 60-second routine with some of the following elements:
To audition for the Majorette line, you must execute the following:
- Toss Walk-over
- One-Spin Illusion
- Toss Illusion (forward and reverse on the right leg)
- 3 Spins (Horizontal & Vertical)
- 2 Baton Combinations
- 3 Baton Combinations
- Advanced understanding of bodywork and dance combinations
- Grand jetes on both legs
Also, each candidate will need to prepare a solo routine not to exceed 2 minutes. Please incorporate personal style as well as required technical skills. You may choose any music that is tasteful. You will be asked to perform this routine if you successfully complete the group audition process, so you may or may not actually perform the routine you have prepared.
Please bring 2 copies of your music either by CD or iPod. You will turn in your music IF and when your number is called to perform the solo routine.
Interviews: They are a great way to get to know the candidate and their personality and speaking ability. Be prepared to introduce yourself and provide an overview of your background, education, and goals. Casual Business Attire is expected.
Judges: The judges will score candidates during both the large group portion of the process in which the routine is being taught and the small group performance portion. Judges are looking for poise, dance/twirling technique, memory, timing, showmanship, personality, overall physical appearance, and learning approach.
Deposit: A new member can expect to pay around $1,800 total for the season’s apparel. Many of these items are one-time purchases. 50% of the members’ total is expected to be paid at the mandatory meeting after being offered a spot on the team. This check should be made out to UGA Bands. The remaining balance is to be paid by June 1st.
The University of Georgia Feature Twirler
The University of Georgia Feature Twirler position is highly sought after and very competitive. The Redcoat Marching Band continues to recruit the best twirlers across the nation. The Feature Twirler is a scholarship position and auditions will be held every year.
In order to be selected you must send a 5-8 minute video that showcases your talent.
Video Submissions need to be in the band office by January 1st. Please send a cover letter, a letter of recommendation, twirling resume, full body photo in uniform along with video to:

The Feature Twirler Panel will select twirler/twirlers to come in for a LIVE audition that will take place in the spring time. Once videos are viewed you will receive a letter from the Band Director stating the next steps in the process. We will ask you to come in for a LIVE audition and you need to prepare a 3 minute routine that should include: 1 baton tricks (double walkover, aerials, double illusions, etc.), 2, 3, and 4 baton tricks to any music of your choice. We will give you a piece of music as well and you will have 30 minutes to choreograph your own routine and perform for the panel.
