Update on Spring Semester 2021

The Hodgson Wind Ensemble has been meeting in-person in small chamber groups since the beginning of the semester. We are taking all precautions (masked, bell covers, distancing, shorter rehearsal times) and so far, so good.

We are continuing our Musical PenPal project with band students at Cedar Shoals and Clarke County High School!

We are excited to share some recordings (coming soon!) and we will also be performing two-three outdoor concerts in April (April 6 and April 27). We want to focus our performances on entertaining our friends in local retirement communities who have suffered so much during the Covid-19 crisis. We will also perform at the UGA Botanical Gardens.

UGA Wind Symphony has been meeting virtually in diverse groups of instrument 'pods' and is creatively presenting a child's concert. We are excited to see and hear the musical trip to the zoo!

Symphonic Band was again cancelled this semester.

The Hodgson Wind Ensemble performed as part of the 2017 JanFest high school band festival in Hodgson Concert Hall at the UGA Performing Arts Center on January 20, 2017.The ensemble dedicated the opening work of the concert, "March Bodrii" by Valery Khalilov, to the conductor, who visited the University of Georgia in November 2016 and worked and performed with the ensemble. Khalilov passed away tragically in December 2016, so the ensemble performed his composition with an empty podium to represent the empty space he left in the world of music. Read more.
